Meghan Boody uses photography to create narrative scenes featuring young female protagonists, which are inspired by characters in fairy tales and classic novels. The works in her “Lighthouse” series (2008), for example, take their titles from the opening line of a Victorian novel featuring an orphan girl. Despite their coherence as a single scene, her works show clear evidence of digital assemblage and manipulation, which is part of Boody’s distinctive style and process: She photographs her costumed models in her studio, and then digitally places them into settings or landscapes from images she finds.
